Ice Falls on West Side of Wolf Creek Pass, CO
April 14, 2022

by John Farley

On the way up to Wolf Creek for some late-season skiing on April 14, I encountered these ice falls along U.S. 160 on the west side of Wolf Creek Pass. These likely formed when the cold front Monday night flash-froze runoff from melting snow in the mountains. There were some of them visible most of the way from around the hairpin/scenic overlook nearly up to Wolf Creek Pass.
